Commissioner Wiley announces Re-Election Bid
Robin Wiley Announces His Candidacy for Re-election as Yuma County Commissioner in District Three.
Robin, a lifelong resident of Yuma County and a fourth generation farmer, announced this week he will seek the nomination for re-election as Yuma County Commissioner. Wiley was first elected in 2000 and took office as Commissioner in January of 2001. Robin believes it is important that the Commissioner’s office takes a fiscally conservative approach to the business of running the county. He also believes it is imperative that the county tries to look out for the long term interests of the citizens of Yuma County. As stewards of the County, Robin believes the Commissioner’s office has done a good job of keeping the county in a strong financial position.
The balance of providing basic services and producing a conservative budget is always a challenge, says Wiley. We know there are many miles of roads in the county that need more attention but how much money do you spend? That is a question we face each year. We try hard to strike a balance. We also work to protect the interests of Yuma County. We formed Yuma County Water Authority and purchased water rights for the long term protection of our citizens. We are also actively engaged in discussions with the State of Colorado on trying to come up with a plan to keep Bonny Reservoir as a viable recreational facility.
Wiley brings a long list of experience from boards and organizations he has served on. He has served on the board of directors of Northeast Colorado Health Department, Centennial Mental Health, Yuma County Landfill and Yuma County Water Authority. He has also served on the Victim Assistance and Law Enforcement Board of the 13th Judicial District, Yuma County Economic Development Corporation, East Yuma County RJ-2 School Board, and a founding board member of the Idalia Vision Foundation. Robin is also a member of Progressive 15 and the Hale and Armel Fire Departments.
Robin and his wife Kathy live and farm in the Idalia community and have five grown children and ten grandchildren.
